The Great Moose Migration

The Great Moose Migration

Every spring, for thousands of years, the Swedish moose migrates across the same tracks in the forest to get to greener pastures and more fertile land.

One of these ancient routes goes through a place called Kullberg – a small village in the northern part of Sweden, located next to the massive river Ångermanälven. This river is a massive obstacle for the moose to cross.

In order to capture this magnificent event, when hundreds of moose try to cross the river during a few weeks time, SVT place 15 remotely controlled cameras in the area to invite and give the audience unique access to this spectacle.

The show first aired in 2019, and ran nonstop at the on-demand service SVT Play for 21 days straight. The Swedish audience took the event to their hearts and in 2019 close to a million unique viewers tuned in, with a total viewing time of almost five million watched hours in total, becoming one of the most viewed on-demand events ever for SVT.

In 2021 these numbers rose to a total of 12 million watched hours, cementing the livestream as a national springtime phenomena.
